What is an Ultrabook?

Technology moves fast and presents us almost daily with new terms and concepts. One of them who is not so recent and so is the Ultrabook, a registered trademark of Intel.

An ultrabook is a category of laptops created to fill the space between the teblets and laptops of high performance. They have performance very superioroes to tablets and portability better than the laptops of high desemepenho.

The first ultrabooks created by Intel in 2011, in part as a response to the success of the MacBook Air, thin but not too much powerful than a netbook.

The typical specifications of an ultrabook are:

  • less than 2 inches thick
  • Intel processor high-performance and low-voltage families Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge
  • Disks fast solid state
  • Ability to turn on or return from hibernation instantly
  • Price around 1000 dollars.

Obviously such specifications are very susceptible to the evolution tencológica and will not last forever. Ultrabooks are sometimes confused with Netbooks. In comparison, the ultrabooks use more powerful processors, faster disks and more RAM memory, in addition to having a larger screen than the netbooks.

But it pays to be an ultrabook? The price of 1000 dollars are certainly out there and when you arrive here in Brazil the price more than doubles. For now (feb 2012) it is prejudice to think about buying an ultrabook in Brazil since there are already laptops with prices well into account. Maybe in the future when the ultrabooks if to popularize here it will be possible to actually find them for prices equivalent to $ 1000 of initial or less.
