Meaning of Camp
Camp is the action of camping (stopping and staying in an unpopulated area, staying in tents or tents). It is about the eventual installation in open ground of people who come together for a special purpose or who are on their way elsewhere.
For example: “This summer I’m going camping with my friends from school”, “I think this is a good place to set up camp: it is in an area high and safe”, “I’ll make camp for two days to regain strength and then we will continue our journey ”.
According to DigoPaul, the camp is usually carried out with the aim of having a close contact with nature. It frequently involves the participation of children, so that they can learn to live with open and natural spaces. As a tourist activity, the camps are more common among young people, since the tents do not offer great amenities, necessary for certain elderly people.
Some associations that fight for the well-being of children offer camp programs to promote integration and help the little ones to discover their vocation and learn to fend for themselves in extreme situations. These are experiences that usually cover all the expenses of the stay and that have the support of famous people, such as singers and actors, which encourages the population to make donations.
For many comforts that life in the city offers us, we cannot deny that we are part of nature, as much as the rest of the animals. It is not surprising that even those who grow up between buildings and asphalt roads feel an unsurpassed pleasure and peace when they camp; the mere contact of our skin with the grass generates in us very pleasant sensations that are difficult to explain.
However, the lack of contact with the natural world over so many generations has affected us on many levels, making us unfit to survive in the open; For this reason, it is highly recommended to carry a well-defined series of elements, among which are the following:
* a rope: this is one of the most useful items, given its versatility. It can be used to overcome emergencies, to secure structures and belongings, or to hang clothes in the sun;
* a flashlight: there are different types, although the most recommended for camping are rechargeable ones, especially those called a dynamo;
* a compass: nowadays, thanks to the mass use of mobile phones, almost all of us have a global positioning system available, but such advanced technology has little to do with the natural experience that one seeks when camping many kilometers from the city. The compass, although it is another creation of the human being, requires more attention and intuition on our part, which makes the experience more satisfactory than with the help of a GPS.
Food preparation is one of the most important activities in a camp. Instant soups, parboiled rice, cans of beans, and pasta are among the most common foods, as they are easy to prepare and store.
It is important to note that some camps are organized urgently and forced by an extraordinary situation (such as a natural catastrophe or war). This type of camp can be carried out indoors since its only objective is to provide temporary accommodation to displaced people: “The president visited the camp where hundreds of people remain who lost their homes after the hurricane, ” “An envoy from the The UN toured the refugee camp and brought a message of solidarity and hope to the victims ”.
