Meaning of Ascent

The notion of ascent has its etymological origin in the Latin word ascensus. The concept of ascent is used with reference to the act of ascending: that is, of ascending (moving upwards).

For example: “The climb to this mountain is very complicated”, “Thanks to my new car, I was able to climb the hill in less than five minutes”, “You have to use two different lifts to complete the climb to the terrace of this skyscraper ”.

In the labor context, the promotion of a worker to a more important and better paid position is called. Suppose a young person works as a commercial representative of a company. Due to his good performance and upon the retirement of another employee, the owner of the company decides to give him a promotion and thus makes him the firm’s sales manager. Thanks to this change, the boy begins to receive a higher salary, although he also begins to have more responsibilities.

Fear of this increased responsibility leads many workers to settle for their jobs, rather than aspire to advancement within their company. On the other hand, the way to get a better position is usually arduous, both due to the effort it takes to strive to the maximum in the performance of tasks and the time it can take to capture the attention of superiors in the expected way.

Generally, when we start working in a very low position, the first promotions are not as promising, and often lead us to situations that could be considered worse than the previous ones. The great goal is far away and only the most persistent and persevering can aspire to achieve it, as it happens in almost all aspects of life.

The idea of economic or social rise, on the other hand, is linked to a symbolic movement in the structure of a society. People who are part of the lower class can be promoted to the middle class if they get the necessary income to live in decent conditions and access better services.

Unfortunately, moving up the social hierarchy is not as easy as getting more money and moving to a more luxurious neighborhood. Discrimination against those who break the poverty line and begin to integrate into a more developed sector is usually very marked, and this prevents an absolute merger.

For the field of economics, the concept of promotion is also called boom, and it is the phase of the cycle in which all activity goes through a time of heyday and prosperity. In this way, ascent is defined as the opposite of depression, which leads to decline.

It is important to point out that the duration of the economic rise is not always the same, and in fact it can vary considerably: according to the conditions of the economy at any given time, it can extend over many years or simply span a few months.

When production stagnates, once again the crisis comes and this gives rise to the beginning of a new economic cycle. It is the critical point of the recovery stage, given that it determines the moment in which the growth of the economy is interrupted, something that can happen as a result of two well-defined factors: having reached full employment in the previous stage; by the presence of stiffness.

In the field of sport, lastly, promotion means that a team manages to gain access to a higher category than the one in which it was competing. A football club that becomes champion of the Second Division, to name a possibility, rises to the First Division.
